Team India all-rounder Amanjot Kaur held onto a juggling catch under pressure to get the key wicket of Laura Wolvaardt in the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 Final against South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, November 2. The Women in Blue are on the cusp of a historic win after getting the better of the opposition skipper and centurion in the run chase.
Laura Wolvaardt was holding the proceedings in the second innings for South Africa as the batters around her crumbled under pressure. The opener scored the majority of the runs, going on to record her second consecutive hundred after her recent heroics in the semi-final against England.
The pressure on Wolvaardt increased as the required run rate approached nine runs per over, heading into the final ten overs. With the likes of Sinalo Jafta and Annerie Dercksen back in the hut, the onus was on the skipper to keep the team alive.
Wolvaardt attempted to take on Deepti Sharma right away in the 42nd over as she played a wild slog sweep, and hoped clear the leg side field. However, she could only get the height, and not the distance, as the ball headed towards the mid-wicket region.
Amanjot Kaur came running in, and was able to get a hold of the ball, before immediately spilling it. However, she used her reflexes to retain control of the ball, and ended up pouching it, and completing the catch after a couple more attempts. Have a look at the stunning catch right here:
Amanjot Kaur had made an impact on the field early on as well, when she executed a direct hit to catch opener Tazmin Brits short of the crease, and hand India their first breakthrough of the innings.

The Women in Blue have been quite erratic in the field, with misfields from Smriti Mandhana and Renuka Singh Thakur gifting South Africa, a couple of boundaries. Following Amanjot Kaur's stunner, the team spilled a couple of opportunities just a couple of overs later.
Firstly, Renuka Singh Thakur dropped a tricky chance off her own bowling, while Jemimah Rodrigues spilled a sitter at deep square leg off the very next ball. At the time of writing, South Africa are placed at 241-8 in the 45th over, with the target 58 runs away.
