When one thinks about the New Orleans Saints these days, running back Alvin Kamara is usually the first player that comes to mind.
Since being drafted out of Tennessee in 2017, Kamara has been one of the best running backs in the league. The veteran has five Pro Bowl selections under his belt and won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2017.
However, Kamara hasn't played in a playoff game in six years, and it's possible he could want to spend the back part of his career with a contender. Kamara will also be a free agent after the 2026 season, so it's possible the Saints could trade him soon.
Ben Belford-Peltzman of PFSN recently identified the Denver Broncos as a logical landing spot for Kamara in a trade if the Saints go that route. Of course, the Broncos are led by head coach Sean Payton, who was Kamara's coach in New Orleans for five seasons.
Regarding this possibility, Belford-Peltzman offered the following:
You also have to realize what Sean Payton brings to the table. Payton helped design Kamara’s most productive seasons in New Orleans. He understands how to maximize his skill set, particularly in the passing game. If Denver wants a veteran presence who can protect a young offense and operate in multiple roles, Kamara makes sense.
As Belford-Peltzman mentioned, Kamara's best seasons came under Payton. Each of the star's five Pro Bowl selections came when Payton was his head coach.
The Broncos could certainly use a dynamic talent like Kamara in the backfield. Veteran J.K. Dobbins impressed in 2025, but he's set to hit free agency and there's no guarantee he'll be back.
Behind Dobbins, the Broncos also had 2025 rookie R.J. Harvey. Harvey showed flashes, but may not be ready to be the full-time back. Kamara could be the perfect veteran compliment to Harvey in the backfield.
It's clear that Kamara's best days are behind him, but he's still a reliable pass-catcher who can break off some big runs. In 2025, the veteran played in 11 games and ended with 471 rushing yards, 186 receiving yards, and one touchdown.
Because of Kamara's age (he will be 31 when the 2026 season kicks off) the Saints likely wouldn't expect too much in a trade. If Payton can reunite with his former Pro Bowler for a mid-round pick, it may be too good to pass up.
