Warriors make decision on tanking amid lackluster season, per report

The Golden State Warriors haven’t had the type of season they were hoping for.

The seven-time NBA champions are 29-27 in late February and have been plagued by injuries all season. While the Dubs are still in position to sneak into the postseason, their championship hopes are relatively slim, prompting some to suggest the organization should consider tanking the rest of the year.

According to a report from The San Francisco Standard’s Tim Kawakami, the Warriors have decided whether to tank going forward.

“I think you know, it is not in my DNA, nor in this organization’s DNA, to do that," Warriors owner Joe Lacob told Kawakami Friday. "It’s not a good look. This is sports. We’re supposed to play to win.”

“And that’s just not a way I would be comfortable, ever, trying to improve our team. Some of our fans, I’m sure — I hear it all the time — would love us to, whatever you want to call it, lose for a better draft position because they assume we’re not going to win this year. I could never do that. And I don’t think our coach is built that way or our team.”

Lacob has the right idea about tanking. Although things don’t appear promising for the Warriors now, they shouldn’t disrespect the game by intentionally losing contests.

If things don't go as planned for Stephen Curry and the Warriors during the final stretch of the season, then so be it. Tanking isn’t ethical and never will be, which Lacob, judging by his recent remarks, clearly comprehends.
