Why Caleb Wilson isn't playing today for UNC with injury news, possible return timeline

The North Carolina Tar Heels are looking to rebound on Saturday in Syracuse from a bad loss early in the week to North Carolina State.

They'll have to do it without Caleb Wilson

The phenomenal freshman remains out of the lineup for UNC's clash with the Orange, which tips off at 1 p.m. ET on ABC.

A national audience can tune in to watch North Carolina and Syracuse, but they won't get to watch Wilson.

Why isn't Caleb Wilson playing today?

Caleb Wilson remains out due to injury.

He has a fractured left hand, which is his non-shooting hand.

North Carolina was 20-5 (8-4 ACC) at the time of the injury, with that now having dropped to 20-6 (8-5).

When is Caleb Wilson coming back?

Wilson is supposed to return "soon," according to head coach Hubert Davis on his radio show on Monday of this week.

"Caleb, he is great," Davis said Monday night on his semi-weekly radio show. “I think if I said 'OK,' I think he would play with his cast on or his splint. I think he would. He's just champing at the bit to come back because obviously he loves to play, but he loves his teammates and he loves playing here."

It would be interesting if Wilson comes back with a cast on his non-shooting hand. That would certainly impact how he plays at least a bit.

UNC would still love to get him back on the floor, however it looks.
