Disco Elysium has three primary endings, with the variations depending upon certain choices you have made throughout the game. It is an RPG that relies heavily on dialogue/action choices and skill checks. The philosophy you choose to espouse and the type of cop you pick to embody: all of that impacts later dialogue and action options.
In this list, we will not discuss which is the best or the worst ending, but rather jot all of them down. We will also mention all the game-over options we have found in Disco Elysium further below.
Disco Elysium endings and how to unlock
The Tribunal (Image via ZA/UM)Irrespective of what you do, the standoff between the rogue mercenaries and the Hardie Boys will take place and you will find the shooter (the deserter) upon exploring the ruins of the fort (Sea Fortress). Your actions/choices during the game will have the following impact on this:
Kim Kitsuragi as partner
This requires you to warn Kim successfully during the face-off between the Hardie Boys and the mercenaries by passing the Medium Authority Red check (comes after the two Reaction Speed checks). The check's success rate is impacted by Harry's reputation with Kim. Once the check is successfully passed, Kim will be able to tackle the oncoming mercenary.
Passing this check is also necessary if you wish to have Kim with you when you reach the Sea Fortress and complete the story. You will get the option to recruit Kim Kitsuragi to Precinct 41 and unlock the Recruit Detective Kim Kitsuragi achievement/trophy.
Cuno as partner
Failing the Medium Authority Red check for warning Kim during the tribunal will result in Kim getting injured. Taken to Precinct 57's infirmary, Kim will be unavailable to assist or accompany Harry for the rest of the case. You can then have Cuno as your partner (depending on your relationship with him).
The ending with this choice will either see you recruiting Cuno to Harry's precinct as a junior officer (unlocking Recruit Detective Kuuno de Ruyter) or leaving Cuno in Martinaise.
Harry alone
This scenario takes place if Kim gets injured and you refuse to take Cuno on as a partner. In this ending, you can get back to Precinct 41, provided you have been sober during the game and/or internalized the Waste Land of Reality thought. If you have not, you will remain in Martinaise in the Coastal Shack.
These are the three primary endings of Disco Elysium that complete the game's story (the first two are considered good by the community, while the final one's first option is thought of as neutral and the second option as bad). There are several game-over options that can occur during your playthrough, depending on your actions and choices.
All Disco Elysium game-over scenarios
These are the following game-over scenarios we are aware of in Disco Elysium:
- After failing the Titus Hardie Authority check, Harry shoots himself
- After Ruby's suicide, Harry gives up on being a cop
- Harry's health runs out
- Harry's morale runs out
- Harry dies from the injury he received during the tribunal
- Harry electrocutes himself while trying to fix the waterlock
- Harry leaves with Moralintern after telling them of the 2mm hole in the church
- Harry refuses to back down when arresting the Hardie Boys
- Harry tries to confront Ruby (a different game-over if you try doing it alone)
- Harry tries to shoot the Hanged Man's body down and hits Cunoesse
- Unable to pay Whirling-in-Rags' room rent, Harry sleeps in the trash
If we are missing any game-over, let us know in the comments. Given there are several ways to go about the game, you should try a different approach in the philosophy you choose, the cop style you go for, and the words you choose to speak if you have already got one ending to explore other possibilities.
