The 1995 movie, “Clueless,” is, undoubtedly, an iconic fashion film.
Between the head-turning ‘90s style and Cher Horowitz’s high-tech closet app that stood ahead of its time, the “Clueless” wardrobe continues to live rent-free in all of our heads.
But where does the wardrobe actually live? Regretably, Alicia Silverstone gave it all away.
“Before I did ‘Clueless,’ I really was a T-shirt and jeans kind of girl. I wasn’t too into fashion at all,” shares Silverstone when speaking with People magazine.
She tried, post-filming, though, taking her character’s covetable wardrobe home with her.
“After I did [“Clueless”], I thought, ‘Oh, I want to have all these clothes, I’m going to wear these clothes.’ Which was a delusional idea because I was not like that girl. Who’s wearing Mary Janes and high stockings everywhere you go?”
“I ended up giving all the clothes away because I realized it was not working in my life. I gave them all away stupidly,” adds Silverstone.
Gia Coppola, granddaughter of the director Francis Ford Coppola, was the lucky recipient of the high-end collection. Sadly, the 38-year-old director is also unaware of the clothing’s whereabouts.
“Lord only knows what Gia’s done with them,” Silverstone laments, “Gia doesn’t know where they are either, so she must have given them away, too. They’re all just gone.”
Travesty. ‘90s kids everywhere are shedding a tear.
With Silverstone set to reprise her 1995 role as Cher in an upcoming sequel series for Peacock, it’s clear the same wardrobe won’t be joining her.
From Cher’s little red dress to her yellow plaid skirt suit, we’re just hoping whoever owns this supreme collection of clothing knows what they have in their wardrobe.
