Alexander Shevchenko will face ninth seed Raphael Collignon in the first qualifying round of the Brisbane International 2026.

Shevchenko started the 2025 season with a semifinal finish at the United Cup, although he won only one of his three singles matches. He didn't register consecutive wins until July, when he made the quarterfinals of the Kitzbuhel Open.

A couple of months later, Shevchenko notched up his best result of the season with a semifinal appearance at the Chengdu Open. While he didn't taste a lot of success on the ATP Tour, he performed better on the Challenger circuit, reaching the final in Sumter.

Collignon made his breakthrough on the ATP Tour in 2025. He upset 12th seed Casper Ruud in five sets en route to the third round of the US Open. He then reached his first tour-level semifinal at the European Open. He also won two titles from four finals on the Challenger Tour, and peaked at No. 73 in the rankings.

Collignon also scored the first top 10 win of his career at the Davis Cup qualifiers. He beat World No. 8 Alex de Minaur in three sets to help Belgium seal their spot in the Finals.

23-year-old Collignon will aim to build upon the success he attained in 2025. While he had a 9-11 record at the ATP level, he went 31-10 on the Challenger circuit. Shevchenko, meanwhile, had a 13-19 record on the main tour, and posted a 11-7 record on the Challenger Tour.

Shevchenko struggled quite often against quality opposition last year, going 7-16 against top 100 players. Collignon fared slightly better in that regard, going 8-10 against top 100 opponents.

Shevchenko previously competed in Brisbane two years ago, and lost in the second round. Collignon, on the other hand, will compete here for the first time. Based on their results in 2025, the Belgian will be favored to come out on top in this contest.
