Ajay Mitchell took the NBA by storm this season.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard went from a player most had never heard of and grew into someone who might be the most underrated star in the entire league.
He wouldn't have made it here without immense support from both of his parents, including his late father.
Mitchell is now trying to help OKC repeat as NBA champions.
With that in mind, this is a look at the people who raised him.

Who are Ajay Mitchell's parents?
Ajay Mitchell's parents are Barry Mitchell and Fabienne Wagemans.
Barry played professional in the CBA after a college career at Norfolk State.
He went on to play and then coach in Belgium.
Fabienne is from Belgium and helped raise Ajay into the player and person he is.
"Much of Ajay’s personality came from his mother, Fabienne Wagemans," wrote The Athletic's Joel Lorenzi earlier this season. "He’s her only child. Last year, she moved in with him in Oklahoma City. She still cooks his meals and washes his clothes. She needed him as much as he needed her, she says."
What happened to Barry Mitchell?
Ajay's father died in December 2025.
Barry's death was unexpected, according to The Athletic.
“I remember our last phone call, and it was like, ‘I’m so proud of you, and I love you, and keep your foot on the gas. Don’t stop,’” Mitchell told The Athletic. “That’s always something that, when I think about (it), no matter what’s going on, those are the things that matter. That’s really all I think about.”
