John Cena was Owens' first feud on the main roster, and the two had some memorable matches. Notably, KO shocked the wrestling fans when he beat The Franchise Player clean in his main roster debut match at Elimination Chamber in 2015.

The two would meet again at Money in the Bank and Battleground that year, with Cena coming out on top on both occasions.

Currently, Owens is out of action with a neck injury having last competed in March this year.

Former WWE writer says John Cena should not have tapped out in final match

After the end of John Cena's final WWE match, fans expressed their displeasure at having the GOAT tap out.

Former WWE writer Vince Russo also questioned the decision, saying this should not have been the finish. Speaking on Coach and Bro, he said even if Cena pushed for this ending, somebody in the writer's room should have told him that they cannot do it.

Russo said it sent a message to kids, especially those with Make-A-Wish, that sooner or later they would have to quit as well. According to Russo, the promotion didn't protect Cena's legacy in the loss.
