    The shock has worn off, so I'd love to tell this story to a community that would appreciate it!!

    On a sunny morning two weeks ago, I met a little tabby on our driveway. We have neighborhood cats and I figured a little guy was just hanging out. I called my partner out and we pet him for a little and then went on with our day.

    Fast forward a few hours, I come home from work and he is on the driveway AGAIN. At this point, I go in and grab him a lil treat and show him our backyard and let him know he can hang out there. Granted, we have 2 dogs so I wasn't sure if we would see him again.

    We leave for an event at our local library and come home joking about how the cat would be in the driveway again. We didn't see him upon our return and just continue to talk about him as we walk further into the house.

    All of a sudden we hear meowing and the driveway cat is IN OUR HOME, just casually walking around. He walked in through the dog door!

  • We don't know how many times we have to keep saying it: cats choose us, not the other way around. Maybe if we say it enough, people will stop being surprised and accept their fate more easily. This cat clearly chose you, and you were refusing to get the message. So, he took it into his own paws and did what needed to be done.

    I immediately called my friend who works with a cat rescue, very frantically, about what to do. One of our dogs is pretty reactive and barks at all the neighborhood kitties, so somehow a war did not break out in our absence.

    checked for microchip, posted on the FB lost & found pet page, talked with neighbors, contacted the shelter, and it was all crickets.

    So a week later we take him to the vet to establish some care and it's becoming more obvious that this little guy will become a part of our family He was found to be in excellent health.

    We've named him Lucky and we somehow got graced with the sweetest, friendliest, cuddliest cat. Thank you CDS for this new adventure in cat caretaking!

  • Of course the dogs knew about it! In fact, the dogs were in on it. They knew the second that he walked into the house, but they chose to let him stay, because - unlike you - they got the message loud and clear the first time around.
