AEW's top champion's recent tribute to John Cena

Earlier this week on Dynamite: Winter is Coming, Samoa Joe defended his AEW Men's World Championship against Eddie Kingston in the main event of the episode. The "King of Television" was successful at retaining his title in his very first defense, as he managed to submit The Mad King with his dreaded Coquina Clutch.

Earlier in the match, however, Joe had surprised fans by unexpectedly paying homage to John Cena ahead of his retirement bout at SNME 42. After planting his opponent with an Attitude Adjustment, The Samoan Submission Specialist had Kingston locked up in an STF, a submission hold that the Cenation leader has used throughout his career quite effectively. Joe even performed a salute at the camera while executing the move, making the tribute arguably very clear.

It remains to be seen if Cena will appear again on WWE programming in a non-wrestling capacity.
