On Wednesday night, The Pat McAfee Show talked to several major U.S. sports commissioners, including the NBA's Adam Silver.
McAfee brought up the hot topic of officiating and flopping in the NBA, and got an interesting answer out of Silver.
Adam Silver gives opinion on state of officiating and flopping in the NBA
For years, and especially most recently, fans on social media and at games have shown their displeasure with some of the calls players get, as it's perceived as unethical basketball to some.
We've seen this controversy most recently and prominently with Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, which is what has sparked the discussion as a hot topic, with the Western Conference Finals currently taking place.
"[flopping] has been a conversation...I would only say that there's a difference between selling a call, exaggeration, and a true flop...to me, if they're not fooling the referees, it's like ok, the players are taught to sell calls these days," Silver said (via @ohnohedidnt24).
From Silver's statement, it sounds like he thinks it's a part of the game and that it isn't as big a deal as the fans are making it to be.
However, he did go on to say that there's room for improvement. "Can officiating get better? Of course, we're always working on that. Can officials get fooled occasionally? We're always at that as well. The officiating is incredible," Silver said.
