Aaron Rodgers' wife's thoughts on his decision to play another season with Steelers

Before Aaron Rodgers decided to retire from the NFL, making this his last season in the league, the Super Bowl champion's wife shared her opinion on his decision.

Fans believed that Rodgers would announce his retirement following his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, but his wife encouraged him to keep going.

"I thought last year might be it and then (former Packers coach) Mike (McCarthy) got hired and I talked to the wife," he said during media availability per ESPN. "She said, 'You can do one more year. See if it works out.'"

He was later asked by a reporter if he would try for the 2027-2028 season, but he shut it down immediately.  

“No,” he said. “Zero debate. Zero.”

McCarthy previously coached Rodgers from 2005 to 2018 in Green Bay. The former Packers coach was hired by the Steelers after longtime head coach Mike Tomlin resigned after the season. McCarthy got sentimental about what it means to coach Rodgers towards the last season of his career.

"Obviously known him since the beginning," McCarthy said. "When you get to that point in life and you get into the fourth quarter of a career, you do reflect. ... I think the biggest thing is where he's at in life. And I've watched him grow both personally and professionally, and his personal life is growing. And this is such a selfish, selfish profession. ... I'm sure where he's at, 42, he's having a lot of thoughts about where he is personally.

McCarthy continued: "... It's special. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. Trust me, that's not lost on me. Every day. I think it's super cool that I get to line up with him one more time."

Last season, Rodgers played 16 games for the Steelers. He led the team to a division title before losing in the wild-card playoff round.

Rodgers' wife Brittani has been a mystery to NFL fans as the quarterback has been sharing only little information about the woman he married last year. In a conversation with Pat McAfee, Rodgers expressed that Brittani likes her privacy.

During an interview on the "Pat McAfee Show" in June 2025, he explained that Brittani "doesn't want to be in the public eye" and "didn't sign up to be a celebrity." 

"And I know that I've chosen to be in the public eye for one more season, but my private life is staying private. The entitlement to information about my private life is so f---ing ridiculous and embarrassing," the Super Bowl champion said.
