Aaron Judge's absence from the New York Yankees lineup on Tuesday came as a bit of a surprise.
After the game, the injury update provided by Yankees manager Aaron Boone wasn't good news, either.
The injury has been referred to by the Yankees as a bone bruise in Judge's right ribcage.
Boone told reporters that Judge is going to see a specialist to get additional tests done.
“It’s kind of a unique spot,” Boone said. “We’ll have the specialist probably look at it (Wednesday) and see where we’re at and see how he feels with it.”
Clearly, any time a specialist is being brought in, it's far from an ideal situation. It also makes it sound like Judge won't be immediately returning to the field after missing one game.
Yankees fans on social media have been trying to come up with the play where Judge may have been hurt, and while there isn't a super obvious candidate recently, earlier in May, he did crash into the wall after this catch:

At this point, it's less crucial to figure out when it happened than it is to figure out what's wrong and how solidly and quickly it can be resolved.
The Yankees are having a solid season, and certainly have the potential to do big things, but they're a very different team if Judge isn't in the lineup.
They'll be careful with this, because they need to make sure their 6-foot-7 superstar is OK. But the entire Yankees fanbase is certainly hoping that this turns out not to be too bad, because Judge is the captain and makes the entire organization tick.
