The sports world has another high-profile WAG – that stands for wives and girlfriends – in Megan Thee Stallion, who started dating Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Klay Thompson in the summer of 2025.
And just like other pairings between A-List musicians (Meg boasts three no. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as three Grammys) and athletic legends (Thompson earned four championship rings as a key part of the Golden State Warriors), the duo has received a lot of attention for their coupling. Also similar to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, David and Victoria Beckham and Ciara and Russell Wilson, the rapper and basketball player have faced plenty of criticism from sports fans – and commentators – as well.
But nothing phases the lovers. “We met and it was such a meet cute,” Megan told People in July. “I won’t tell you how and I won’t tell you when, but it was a movie,” adding that “he’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.”
Between golfing outings, games and plenty of PDA-packed posts on their social media accounts, Megan and Klay seem more than comfortable sharing their journey with everyone, while still having time for their own careers. (Her single “Lover Girl” – with the appropriately sexy and loved-up lyrics “My man, my man, my man, my baby, my baby/ D–kin’ me down, spoilin’ me, drivin’ me crazy” – dropped at the end of October 2025, and he returned to the court for his 13th season in the NBA the same month.)

Before making it public, the “WAP” star posted a bikini photo on her Instagram, and fans speculated that they could just make out the basketball player in one of the pics in the carousel.

July 12, 2025: Klay Teases the Relationship
In another soft launch, Thompson’s Instagram dump on this day features what appears to be Meg from behind, as well as a hand-holding pic, with the caption “Sweet Bells Son.”

July 16, 2025: The Hard Launch
Just a few days later, the two made their red carpet debut at the rapper’s Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala – which raised $1.2 million for underserved communities in Houston and around the world – in New York City. “This is my first relationship where I’ve ever been with somebody who’s genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy,” she told Page Six at the Event.

July 23, 2025: A Golf Outing – And a Declaration of Love
While in Arkansas for work, Megan agreed to hit the links with Thompson. “So today, my man wanna take me to play golf, so I’m going to let him pick my outfit,” she explained in the video. (For the record, he chose a lavender skirt and white top.) “Ever since I’ve been in love, my golf game’s reaped all the benefits!” he said as they tallied up their scores.

She’s not the only one posting. Megan made her clear debut in the hooper’s feed, too: “Klay is taking me on another adventure and we’re going fishing,” she said in the video.

Aug. 19, 2025: A Home Cooked Meal
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and Megan takes her cooking responsibilities seriously. “So Klay had never had spaghetti and catfish together before, and ever since the first time I made it for him, he ask me for this s—t like every week,” she said.

Oct. 22, 2025: Their Love Goes Courtside
During the Dallas Mavericks’ 2025-2026 season opener against the San Antonio Spurs, Megan supported her significant other in the arena — and even gifted him a nautical-themed chain for the occasion. Though the Mavs lost to the Spurs, Megan proudly showed off her time at the game the next day on her Instagram.

In another photo dump on Meg’s account, she can be seen making “heart hands” with her boyfriend in front of a house while holding a key, prompting fans to wonder in the comments if they live together now – and if a ring is next.

Nov. 13, 2025: Meg Gets Blamed for His Troubles on the Court, But Klay Claps Back
Thompson lost his starting spot on the Mavericks, and critics had some thoughts. On the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, co-host (and retired NBA player) Jason Williams insinuated that Thompson’s lackluster start to the season could be due to his love life. “I’m from West Virginia, man. I’ve been taught a lot by some old folks, old white folks. It only takes one p—y to drag a battleship across a desert. That’s how powerful it is,” he said. “I ain’t saying that’s what it is, but that might be what it is.”
In response to Williams’ accusations, Thompson blasted the take on Instagram. “Referring to my GF as a ‘p—y’ is so disgusting and disturbing. Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way,” he wrote. “Do better fellas. Very disappointing.”

Nov. 30, 2025: Klay Names His Boat After Meg
Thompson made a major declaration of love by revealing in November 2025 that he’d named his boat “SS Stallion” after his partner.
Shortly prior, the pair spent Thanksgiving together, with Meg sharing a video of herself cooking for the athlete and his family.

Meg pulled out all the stops to celebrate Thompson’s 36th birthday, sharing photos from their festivities on Instagram captioned “Klay Day,” and revealing that she got one of his favorite groups, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, to perform just for him.

Feb. 13, 2026: Meg Says She’s ‘Comfy’ With Klay
In an interview with People just ahead of their first Valentine’s Day together, Meg opened up about finding love with Thompson. “I didn’t even know I was going to be in my relationship, to be honest,” she told the publication.
“I think that because finally I started being in a better mind space about myself and my life, and I had already been doing a lot of work to heal me … maybe God just opened up that space for me to have somebody that loved me right,” she continued. “This is one of the first times that I’ve ever been just overly comfortable. I’m comfy, babe!”

Feb. 23, 2026: Meg Is ‘Manifesting’ an Engagement
Meg made it very clear that she sees a proposal in her future with Thompson while filming a YouTube video with Olympians Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight, who’d gotten engaged shortly prior.
“Manifesting my engagement, too,” the rapper said while crossing her fingers for luck in the clip.
