Tyler Soderstrom is having an extra special holiday.
The 24-year-old left fielder and the A’s are in agreement on a seven-year, $86 million contract extension to make for the largest guarantee in franchise history, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday.
The deal involves an eighth-year club option and can max out at $131 million.

Sergio Estrada-Imagn ImagesSoderstrom’s extension surpasses those of Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler, who were both extended on respective $60 million and $65.5 million before the 2025 season. Previously, the A’s $67 million contract agreement with Luis Severino was the high mark.
Soderstrom, who was a first-round pick in 2020 out of Turlock High School in California, had a breakout 2025 campaign. The left-handed hitter had a .276 average and recorded an .820 OPS along with 25 home runs and 93 RBIs across 561 at bats and 158 games.
It was a significant jump in his third year in the MLB. The year prior, he hit .233 with a .743 OPS in 61 games.
Soderstrom was one of the league’s top hitters to start the year, belting nine home runs while hitting .284 before the end of April.
Additionally, Soderstrom was tied for fourth in the league only behind Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh and Eugenio Suarez in homers through the first month of the season.

He went on to play first base for the majority of the 2024 season.
He split his time between first base and left field last season for the A’s.
Soderstrom is a part of the young core that the team is forming, including AL Rookie of the Year Nick Kurtz and Jacob Wilson.
