Zohran Mamdani made his pick for the "holy trinity of pop singles". The New York City mayor named Madonna, Jeremiah, and Kim Petras, along with making a surprise pick.
Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as the New York City mayor on New Year's Day, i.e., January 1, 2026. He defeated the likes of Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral elections in November 2025. He has become the first Indian-origin person and the first Muslim to become New York City's mayor.
A major part of Mamdani's election campaign showed him being in touch with pop culture and sports. As such, Pop Base shared a clip from an interview with him on New Year's Day, where the reporter asked him to name the "holy trinity of pop singles". The NYC mayor answered:
"Ok, I have been recently listening to ‘I Like Ur Look’ by Kim Petras, ‘4 Minutes’ by Madonna but the YouTube version with the extended intro. Um, this morning, I was listening to ‘Impatient’ by Jeremiah and as we’re here at a Moroccan restaurant, I’m gonna break the rules ‘coz you asked for three, I’m also gonna say Dystinct’s ‘Yama’"Users on X (formerly Twitter) have reacted to this, as one wrote:

He addressed the city in a rousing speech, where he spoke about setting expectations, his policies, goals, and much more.
The 34-year-old said that while he was writing his address speech, he was told to lower the expectations. He, however, asserted:
“I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is that of small expectations. Beginning today we will govern expansively and audaciously. We may not always succeed but never will we be accused of lacking the courage to try.”He further spoke about his socialist beliefs, adding:
“I was elected as a democratic socialist and I will govern as a democratic socialist. I will not abandon my principles for fear of being called radical.”Following his appointment, Mamdani revoked all executive orders that former NYC mayor Eric Adams had issued after September 24, 2024. Adams was indicted with federal corruption charges in September 2024, but the charges were later dropped by Donald Trump's office.
On their decision to revoke his executive orders, Mamdani's office stated:
“[It is] a fresh start for the incoming administration and reissues executive orders that the administration feels are central to delivering continued service, excellence, and value-driven leadership.”The new NYC mayor, however, confirmed that he would reinstate some of these orders later on.
