A former WWE champion was frustrated after a recent major AEW event. He sent out a bold message after this week's Dynamite, looking ahead to the new year.
The aforementioned star, who is also a former AEW World Champion, is Swerve Strickland. The former Hit Row member made his return at Full Gear 2025 and was immediately inserted into the World Championship picture. At the recent Worlds End 2025 pay-per-view, he was part of a four-way World title match, which was won by MJF, who used underhanded tactics to become the new champion.
On the following episode of Dynamite, Strickland and Hangman Adam Page confronted MJF and were visibly angry, right after Kenny Omega also sent him a message via the titantron. After that appearance, he took to his X to drop photos from that segment, and is looking forward to 2026 with a strong message.
AEW star Swerve Strickland on helping his rival win the World Championship
At the All In Texas in July 2025, Swerve Strickland provided a major assist to his arch-rival, 'Hangman' Adam Page, in defeating Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Strickland admitted that while the two hated each other, they also needed each other.
“I don’t extend to the world title without him, but I also don’t lose that all in without him. So we kind of need each other. We hate each other, but we need each other. We also made each other better. People were talking about Hangman being done as a main eventer, as a World Champion in 2023. They were like, we got to look past Hangman, it’s Will Ospreay’s time now, because he just wasn’t there. Mentally, he just wasn’t there. I broke him, but I also did it intentionally, because I know Hangman is that guy," Swerve detailed. With the former WWE superstar coming up short in winning the World Championship at the end of 2025, it remains to be seen what 2026 has in store for him.
