A father and son caught the Dodgers' Miguel Rojas and Will Smith home runs in World Series Game 7

The two most consequential home runs of the 2025 MLB season were caught by members of the same family.

That's right: Miguel Rojas' game-tying home run in Game 7 of the World Series was caught by a father, and Will Smith's game-winning home run was caught by his son.

Sports finance writer Darren Rovell shared this story in a new article on Sunday.

Rovell shared that the father, John Bains, caught the Rojas homer in the front row of the left-field bleachers in the top of the ninth inning.

And then in the top of the 11th, the son Matthew reeled in the Smith homer that turned into the final run in a 5-4 victory.

"John Bains appeared to throw back Rojas' tying homer," Rovell wrote, "but he told cllct he had two other balls in his pocket in case he needed to pull the switcheroo."

Bains told Rovell that he thinks they'll keep the baseballs, unless the offers were astounding.

"I'd take $1 million for the Rojas ball and $1.5 million for the Smith ball," Bains told Rovell. "They were both game-changing baseballs."

What are the odds of this?

Probably about as unlikely as the fact that Rojas hit a game-tying home run in the first place.

Sports never cease to disappoint, and they bond people in entirely unexpected ways. A father and son catching the two biggest swings of the season, now that's unexpected, but it's also incredible.
