The San Antonio Spurs are off to an incredible start to the 2025-26 season.
While the franchise had high expectations entering the year, few predicted they would prevail in five of their first six contests and make a convincing case for being early-season contenders.
However, following the Spurs’ first loss of the year, the organization received devastating news regarding their high-upside 19-year-old guard, Dylan Harper.
“San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper has suffered a left calf strain and is expected to miss multiple weeks,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Monday. “MRI on Monday revealed Harper avoided a significant absence.”
Harper experienced the calf strain injury during the first half of the Spurs’ Sunday night contest against the Phoenix Suns.
The Rutgers product recorded 12 points on 62.5% shooting in 11 minutes, but couldn’t continue his impressive play due to the nagging lower-body setback.
Harper, who the Spurs selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, has been on his P’s and Q’s to kick off his NBA career.
The smooth 6-foot-5 playmaker is averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in a reserve role, shooting 50.0% from the field and 35.7% from three-point land.
While it’s unfortunate that Harper’s rhythm will get thrown off slightly following his injury diagnosis, the Franklin Lakes, New Jersey native should be encouraged knowing he has a bright future in the big leagues.
