The Philadelphia 76ers just had one of their worst seasons in years, and it might be a sign they need to make some roster changes. Some of those changes include moving on from some veterans so they can make room for their new talent to grow.
Fansided’s Nicolas Kyle Pring predicted that Sixers veteran guard and NBA champion Kyle Lowry will be one of those vets, as he isn’t producing like he used to.
“Lowry is already probably contemplating retirement this time around. He turned in a slew of career-lows this season, and at this juncture, the idea of him still being a viable role player is only feasible from a simulated talking point,” Pring wrote. “The former All-Star simply doesn’t have the juice to be a reliable contributor anymore. Aside from his rather shaky spot-up shooting, he no longer has what it takes to break down defenses or bother other players on defense, although to be fair, asking him to do those is already too much.”
This season, Lowry wasn’t much of a contributor at all. He averaged 3.9 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in only 35 games. He was also playing 18.8 minutes per game, which doesn’t help his stock at all either.
Lowry is 38, and is pretty much at the end of his career. He was a six-time All-Star, made an All-NBA team, and helped the Toronto Raptors get their sole title. If he decides to hang it up this season, many fans will be grateful to him, and he might even see his number lifted into the rafters in Toronto.
