76ers advised to part ways with two-time All-Star, struggling veteran to reshape their roster

The Philadelphia 76ers are unexpectedly in offseason mode following a disastrous season.

Joel Embiid and Paul George's underachieving play and injuries are a huge reason why, but the 76ers are still likely going to operate under the belief that Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey will lead this team back to the playoffs next season.

In order for them to get there, though, changes will need to be made. FanSided's Nicolas Kyle Pring advises the Sixers to part ways with Andre Drummond this offseason.

"Drummond can still probably function as a low-minute role player in the league," Pring wrote. "After all, he is still an imposing force on the boards — an erstwhile textbook skill that has become a niche skill set in a league that insists on playing small as much as possible.

"Unfortunately for him, the 76ers need an upgrade. Drummond was a one-dimensional rebounder for them this season, and his inability to finish efficiently around the basket and complete dearth of rim protection simply cannot be ignored any longer," Pring concluded.

Though Drummond proved capable of registering double-doubles with ease in an expanded role, he averaged just 7.3 points and 7.8 rebounds in 40 games this season.

Drummond's skillset differs considerably from Embiid's, and it's just unrealistic for the Sixers to expect Drummond to provide the same skillset that helped him make two All-Star teams at this stage of his career.

Given the risk of Embiid missing significant time, it would probably behoove the Sixers to look into a big man who can reliably handle a bigger workload, hit the three-pointer, make a better percentage of their free throws, and protect the rim.
