The San Francisco 49ers have their early-round draft picks to resolve some major issues on the roster, with the edge rusher and the offensive line as two of their biggest needs this offseason.
But, later down the board in the 2026 NFL Draft, the 49ers can explore additions to other position groups that might not be as dire a need anymore. One of those positions, after the signings of Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, is wide receiver.
As Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski writes, the 49ers are the best fit for a wide receiver who would be a perfect match for Kyle Shanahan. This 6-foot-1 WR out of is a projected Day 3 pick in Baylor's Josh Cameron.
49ers linked to Baylor's Josh Cameron
"Kyle Shanahan has a type at wide receiver, and Baylor's Josh Cameron fits to a tee," Sobleski writes. "... Cameron can give the Niners the type of versatile wide receiver Shanahan loves to go along with Ricky Pearsall and the recently signed Mike Evans."
Sobleski notes that Cameron is a versatile receiver who could be a whole lot more than just another wide receiver for the 49ers. But that scouting report doesn't tell the full story.
While he is a versatile receiver, his versatility can't compare to Deebo Samuel, who could be used as both a runner and a receiver. In four years at Baylor, Cameron only had three total carries.

Landing Cameron on Day 3 of the draft on a very cheap four-year rookie deal would make a lot more sense for the 49ers instead of signing another free agent WR or taking one early in the draft with their other needs.
Last year for Baylor, Cameron caught 69 of 102 targets for 872 yards and nine touchdowns. In 2024, Cameron was even better, catching 52 passes for 754 yards and 10 touchdowns.
While he had more catches and yards in 2025, his efficiency was a lot better during the 2024 college football season at Baylor.
Cameron would be an interesting Day 3 flier for the 49ers. If Shanahan and the 49ers want to acquire Cameron, then this underrated WR would be a very acquirable player on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft.
