49ers predicted to compete with Bills, Chargers, 2 NFC East teams for 13,000-yard WR

The San Francisco 49ers are entering the 2026 NFL offseason with a need at wide receiver, with two of their top options set to leave the team.

Brandon Aiyuk's time with the 49ers, and potentially the NFL, might be up, while Jauan Jennings is a free agent and might not return. With a hole opposite Ricky Pearsall, the Niners need help in the WR room, and badly.

That's why it's not a surprise the 49ers were named by CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones among the many clubs contending for a 13,000-yard WR in free agency. The 49ers are expected to compete with at least four teams for Mike Evans this offseason.

49ers to compete with four teams for Mike Evans

"If Evans does not return to Tampa Bay, keep an eye on the Bills, Chargers, 49ers, Commanders, and Giants," Jones writes.

The 49ers are not going to be alone in their interest in Evans this offseason. The Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, and the New York Giants will all be possible landing spots.

Jones does mention that the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans might not be in on Evans' market. But that doesn't mean it's going to be any easier.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still the favorites, and if the Philadelphia Eagles trade away AJ Brown, they could get involved in the Evans sweepstakes.

Landing Evans, a potential future Hall of Fame wide receiver, would be very appealing for most teams. And for the 49ers, a club looking to contend for a Super Bowl, Evans makes too much sense.

But it's not going to be easy, as Evans will have plenty of suitors in free agency, not only driving his price tag up, but making it hard for the 49ers to convince Evans to come to San Francisco.

This might be one of the most interesting free agencies of the 2026 offseason, as someone as good as Evans hitting free agency doesn't happen every offseason.
