49ers' Fred Warner ignites Brock Purdy vs. Justin Herbert debate

1 hour ago 1

We always want to see teammates have confidence in each other, and when it comes to San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, he's all in Brock Purdy's corner.

With the 49ers bundled out of the postseason as injuries ravaged the team all season, Purdy did the best he could.

Some are still unsure of exactly how good Purdy is, but there's no doubt in Warner's mind.

In fact, he has Purdy above Justin Herbert, a quarterback he has spoken glowingly of in the past.

And on the Up & Adams Show, Warner detailed why he picked Purdy over Herbert, but also had a huge career projection for Brock as well.

“Justin Herbert is a great quarterback, but he's not Brock Purdy," Warner said. "Brock Purdy is the best and I see it every single day. I see it every week. It's only a matter of time before he's got, not only a Super Bowl trophy, but an MVP trophy. That's how good he is.”

Purdy has to stay healthy

It is all good and well, Warner saying that about Purdy, but for that to eventuate, Purdy has to stay healthy.

After all, your best ability is availability, and for Purdy, he's had injury troubles for the past 12 months.

So now entering the offseason, in an ideal world, Purdy would take on a full workload and look to play all 17 games for the 49ers in 2026. Do that, and maybe Warner's prediction can come true.

Having a 30-15 regular season record in four years, coupled with making the playoffs in three of them (5-3 record), the floor has been set.

But is Purdy better than Herbert? He's certainly done a whole lot more than Justin to date.

So, you can easily make the case that, at least right now, Warner is right in his comments.
