There were a few storylines in WWE this year that were doomed from the start. The company started these stories with a good intention, but they fell midway through. Although these storylines had the potential to culminate in big feuds, somehow they couldn't materialize in a way the company wanted them.
In this listicle, we will list four WWE storylines that were doomed from the start.
#4 Liv Morgan's feuds with Nikki Bella and IYO SKY
WWE teased feuds between Liv Morgan and IYO SKY and with Nikki Bella also, but the storylines couldn't see the light of day because Morgan suffered an injury in June, 2025.
Spoiler on Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes - Check Here!
First, the company tried to plant the seeds of rivalry between Liv Morgan and IYO SKY by getting them to fight in the Elimination Chamber. The ultimate plan was to book Morgan to face SKY for the Women's World Championship at Night of Champions. However, Liv Morgan dislocated her shoulder in a match with Kairi Sane on RAW.
Similarly, Morgan's feud with Nikki Bella was dropped midway due to her shoulder injury. In fact, Nikki was supposed to attack Morgan during her match with Kairi Sane, but Liv Morgan got injured minutes before Nikki's arrival, and the Hall of Famer was stopped from entering the ring.
These two storylines would have kicked off well, but Morgan's untimely injury halted all the plans. And now, it doesn't appear that WWE will pursue this storyline, since Nikki Bella is currently locked in a feud with Stephanie Vaquer, and IYO SKY is tangled in a feud with The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane).
#3 Naomi's WWE Women's World Championship title reign
Naomi's maiden Women's World Championship reign was another failed storyline that was doomed from the start. It's because Naomi was most likely pregnant at the time of winning the title.
She won the gold at Evolution PLE on July 13, 2025, after cashing in her Money in the Bank contract against IYO SKY. However, nearly a month later, on August 18, 2025, she announced that she was pregnant and vacated her title.
That means she was already pregnant at the time of winning the title, although she might not have known about it. Although Naomi is a two-time SmackDown Women's Champion, this was her maiden win of the Women's World Championship title. Unfortunately, her title run lasted for only one month.
#2 Jey Uso's first WWE World Heavyweight title reign
Jey Uso's maiden World Heavyweight Championship run also didn't turn out the way the WWE creative team would have wanted it to be. The Yeet star was given the chance to win the Royal Rumble 2025 after he started receiving massive crowd support. However, the 40-year-old superstar had to drop the gold within two months of winning it.
In fact, it was a title run that was doomed from the beginning. Jey had lost three matches to Gunther before his title match at WrestleMania 41. And at Mania, he won by making the Ring General tap out, using the Austrian Scion's own submission move: the Sleeper Lock. The ending received backlash from the fans.
The same WWE Universe that backed Jey Uso massively turned on him when he became the World Heavyweight Champion. The company deemed it wise to book Jey to lose the World Heavyweight Championship as soon as possible. And on June 9, 2025, the Yeet Master dropped his title back to Gunther on Monday Night RAW.
#1 John Cena's heel turn in WWE
John Cena's heel turn storyline would go down as one of the biggest flop tales from Triple H's era in WWE. A storyline that started on a banger at Elimination Chamber 2025, nosedived so miserably in the next two months that the company hardly mentions it.
Even John Cena later conceded that his heel turn didn't turn out to be a success. It won't be wrong to say that Cena's heel storyline had to meet a tragic fate because of the involvement of The Rock.
The Final Boss led to Cena's heel turn, and then vanished from the scene. The fans felt cheated. What made matters worse was rapper Travis Scott's involvement in the main event of WrestleMania 41, when he had no role in the background story, apart from being only present at the time when Cena turned heel.
The fans gave a big thumbs down to the finish and Cena's heel turn. And it was a breather for them when The Champ turned babyface once again after dropping the gold to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025.
Cena's heel turn had raised eyebrows all over the world. However, the execution was so terrible that it now remains as a haunting memory for the WWE fans as well as the creative team. Henceforth, the company would think a hundred times before turning a big babyface into a villain.
