John Cena will wrestle his final match at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII on December 13. The Cenation Leader has only four dates left before he bids farewell to in-ring competition.

Cena's retirement tour arguably hasn't lived up to the hype thus far. From an underwhelming heel run to a questionable choice of opponents, fans have been critical of how the Triple H-led creative team has handled The Franchise Player's last year as an in-ring competitor.

That said, the creative team could redeem itself by potentially pulling off these four surprising twists in the remaining dates of John Cena's farewell tour:

Did The Rock's "Final Boss" run hurt WWE? Watch Here!

#4. John Cena wins the Intercontinental Title and retires as champion

John Cena has had the kind of career that superstars dream of having. The veteran has achieved almost everything in the Stamford-based promotion, except for winning the Intercontinental Championship.

If Cena wins the IC Title, he will finally become a Grand Slam Champion in WWE. Interestingly, the reigning champion, Dominik Mysterio, has called out The Last Real Champion for a title bout. Therefore, winning and retiring with the one title that has eluded him would be a fitting end to John Cena's career.

#3. The Last Real Champion challenges for the World Heavyweight Title at SNME XLII

A new World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned this Saturday as Jey Uso faces CM Punk for the vacant title. In his final match, The Franchise Player could challenge the winner of the upcoming title bout.

The Cenation Leader has a history with both competitors. CM Punk is one of Cena's most iconic rivals. The two previously faced off at Night of Champions for the Undisputed WWE Championship, where Cena was victorious.

Meanwhile, Jey Uso won the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble Match by last eliminating the 17-time World Champion. Cena could attempt to break his own record, potentially winning his 18th World Title by challenging either Punk or Jey in his final match on December 13.

#2. John Cena becomes the new leader of The Vision

When John Cena turned heel at Elimination Chamber 2025, fans were shocked and excited to see the veteran finally embrace the dark side. However, Cena's heel run didn't live up to the hype it initially generated, as the Hollywood megastar reverted to being a babyface before SummerSlam 2025.

That said, The Vision removing Seth Rollins from the faction has opened up an opportunity for the creative team to pull off another swerve. What if The Last Real Champion is revealed as the faction's leader? While his alliance with The Rock and Travis Scott was uneventful, Cena has a better chance at exploring his potential as a villain with The Vision.

However, it could be argued that with only four appearances left in Cena's retirement tour, this potential storyline might not reach a proper conclusion. While that is true, it would be a shocking scenario, to say the least, and could help the heel faction find its footing after Rollins' removal.

#1. John Cena extends his retirement tour until WrestleMania 42

As mentioned earlier, fans are not satisfied with how Cena's final year as an in-ring performer has played out. With only four dates left, there isn't much time to redeem it.

Despite any speculation or rumors, on July 6, 2024 I announced I would retire from WWE in ring participation. I am far from perfect but strive to be a person whose word has value. 12/13/25 will be my final match. I am beyond grateful for every moment WWE has given me. I am

While The Franchise Player has made it clear several times that his time is up on December 13, the overwhelming response from the audience could prompt Cena to consider extending his retirement tour until WrestleMania 42, where he could have his final match. That said, this is highly unlikely to happen.
