3 reasons Buffalo Bills need to trade for Saints' WR Chris Olave

3 hours ago 3

The Buffalo Bills are expected to be active Tuesday ahead of the 4 p.m. ET NFL trade deadline. The rumors and needs have been discussed for days and weeks, and it's finally time to get something done.

There's one name that might cost a lot but could also be worth it for Buffalo: New Orleans Saints WR Chris Olave.

The Saints may be more inclined to deal Rashid Shaheed, but Olave is the guy the Bills, and any other receiver-needy team, should be after.

Here's why:

Chris Olave is really good

The first key is this: Olave is probably the best receiver that could be moved on Tuesday.

The former Ohio State star cleared 1,000 yards in each of his first two NFL seasons.

He was limited to eight games last season with injury, but now through nine games in 2025 Olave has 55 catches for 560 yards and three touchdowns.

He'd instantly become Buffalo's No. 1 WR. This wouldn't be the Amari Cooper trade of getting a guy who's over the hill. Olave is in his prime.

Chris Olave's contract is helpful

Olave, unlike most guys who could be moved Tuesday, is under contract through the 2026 season.

That's part of the reason the Saints want to hold him. It's also part of the reason his trade cost could be quite high.

But if the Bills got Olave, they'd have him this season and next season. And that'd be a big win.

Bills owe it to Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills have yet to get over the hump and even reach the Super Bowl with Allen as their quarterback.

The lovable MVP and superstar has put the Bills in good position time and again.

They need to maximize their chances this season and in the near future to avoid missing out for the entirety of Allen's prime years.

Two years of Olave would be a great boost toward Buffalo making the Super Bowl and potentially winning it. The draft capital cost to get him could be worried about down the road. Olave would be a statement of intent in the present.
