The Montreal Canadiens nearly pulled off a tremendous comeback on Monday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. The Habs were down 3-1 in the third period, but rallied to tie the game.

Lane Hutson scored with about a minute and a half left in the third period to tie the game. Josh Anderson added the other third-period tally for the Montreal Canadiens. Oliver Kapanen got the other goal for the Habs. Meanwhile, Zach Werenski, Adam Fantilli, and Dmitri Voronkov got the regulation goals for Columbus. Kirill Marchenko got the winner in the shootout.

So, here’s a look at the three least impressive Montreal Canadiens players from their shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night.

3 least impressive Montreal Canadiens from SO loss to Columbus Blue Jackets

#3 Brendan Gallagher

The Montreal Canadiens veteran forward did not have his most impressive game of the season. He hit the ice for a touch over 12 minutes across 17 shifts. He failed to register a shot on goal.

Gallagher has yet to score a goal this season. While he’s added seven assists, his offensive production has seemingly evaporated this season.

#2 Alexandre Carrier

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexandre Carrier had a bit of a tough night against the Blue Jackets. He hit the ice for over 18 minutes across 23 shifts. He did not get a shot on goal and did not block any.

He would have had an uneventful night if not for his role in the Blue Jackets’ third goal of the night. Here’s a look at the tally as shown on the Blue Jackets’ official X account:

The shot from Kirill Marchenko hit the net, with Voronkov there to deflect the puck past Montreal netminder Jakub Dobes. Carrier, meanwhile, was unable to prevent Voronkov from getting a stick on the puck.

#1 Joshua Roy

Joshua Roy was an emergency call-up following Kirby Dach’s injury last week. While Roy has shown he’s a good player at the AHL level, he’s had some struggles in the NHL.

Those struggles were evident on Monday night as his role in Fantilli’s go-ahead goal was a painful example. Here’s a look:

Roy tried to clear the puck, but whiffed on the play. Fantilli picked up the loose change and beat Dobes for the 2-1 go-ahead goal. Had Roy made that play, Fantilli would not have had the scoring opportunity.

The Canadiens will hit the ice again on Thursday night as they host the Washington Capitals at the Bell Centre.
