The Dallas Cowboys are riding high on their Week 2 victory over the Washington Commanders, and that's a good feeling. But, the team is 1-1 for the season after falling in their season opener to the New York Giants.
So, even though the win over the Commanders is sweet, it would have been even sweeter if this team was 2-0 right now. Regardless, three players on the Cowboys' squad are now being hit with NFL punishment for actions they took in the team's season opener.
Each weekend, the NFL hands out punishments and fines to players for breaking the rules during the games the week prior. According to the NFL's official website, the league "uses the fine schedule to outline the league's and the union's expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league."
Multiple Cowboys players get NFL fines
Three Cowboys players got hit with fines last weekend. Donovan Ezeiruaku was fined $11,941 for unnecessary roughness after a facemask at 2:10 of the fourth quarter, while DeMarvion Overshown was fined $9,527 for unnecessary roughness after a late hit at 9:38 of the first quarter. Also, Javonte Williams was fined $11,941 for unsportsmanlike conduct after taunting at 5:26 of the fourth quarter.
Having three players all get punished is a bit dramatic, but that's the case for the Cowboys this week. Many teams didn't have any fines, so hopefully Dallas falls into that category soon.
The fines go to a good cause, though, with the NFL stating, "fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game."
The Cowboys' next game is against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
