The 2025 F1 Mexican GP saw Lando Norris put on a masterclass of sorts. The McLaren driver secured a dominant pole on Saturday, and after having a brilliant start, he never looked back.

Unlike what we have seen in the last few years, this time around the F1 Mexican GP was an interesting experience. There were quite a few brilliant drives all over the field that caught the eye of many.

As the chequered flag fell, it was Lando Norris who won the race from Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen. With the race weekend now in the rearview mirror, how did the drivers perform? Let's take a look at our driver ratings.

Criteria

  • Performance in both qualifying and races is judged.
  • Results achieved compared to the potential of the car.
  • Mistakes made over the weekend.
  • Relative performance against teammate.

2025 F1 Mexican GP: Rating the drivers

McLaren

Lando Norris

Rating: 10

Perfect. That's it! Not much left to say here as the British driver nailed every important session and showed the kind of performances that would make champions proud. A perfect way to become a championship leader, as Lando Norris put a stamp on his contendership as one of the contenders this season.

Oscar Piastri

Rating: 6

The last few races from Oscar Piastri have not been acceptable. The F1 Mexican GP falls in that category, especially when he loses out to a Haas. The Australian, who was once a comfortable leader in the championship and a runaway favorite, is now in danger of being overshadowed by the other two rivals.

Ferrari

Charles Leclerc

Rating: 10

The last few races have shown what Charles Leclerc's worth is to Ferrari. The young driver nails everything and picks every little thing that is on offer in that car. A P2 finish was the best he could have achieved, and he got it done.

Lewis Hamilton

Rating: 6

Looking at Lewis Hamilton's race weekends recently, there's an element of "he's getting there". The driver has closed up in qualifying and in the races as well to his Ferrari teammate. The problem? Putting it all together.

The F1 Mexican GP could have been a podium for Lewis Hamilton or a top 5 result at the very least. If only he had adjudged his next steps after he outbraked himself into Turn 4.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen

Rating: 9

If you exclude the first lap shenanigans and the track cutting with Lewis Hamilton, this was perfection in terms of damage limitation. Max Verstappen made the most of a somewhat unpredictable Red Bull, and a P2 was possibly on the table if not for the late race VSC.

Yuki Tsunoda

Rating: 6.5

Yuki Tsunoda should have scored points if not for the 12-second pit stop. It's very hard to judge how the second Red Bull driver performs, as we don't have any clue about how big a disparity exists between the second and the first driver in terms of parts on the car.

Mercedes

George Russell

Rating: 7.5

George had every right to be unhappy at his rival's first lap shenanigans. At the same time, though, getting bumped by a Haas was not a good look. The Brit would not be too happy with how his F1 Mexican GP went.

Kimi Antonelli

Rating: 7.5

Kimi has now reached a point where his performances have reached an "acceptable" level. The Italian still lacks that final something in both the race pace and qualifying, something that comes with the step a rookie makes over a winter break.

Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso

Rating: 6

Fernando Alonso was not a happy man at the F1 Mexican GP. The way he just brought the car home, even though his team didn't tell him to, is also an indication of how the Spaniard is right at the end of his patience with Aston Martin, and 2026 better be a good one for the veteran to stay.

Lance Stroll

Rating: 5

Stroll continues to struggle in qualifying against his teammate. There's not much to write home about for the Canadian as he also waits for the Aston Martin to give him a better package in the future.

Alpine

Pierre Gasly

Rating: 6.5

The French driver can try as much as he wants, but it does appear that the lack of pace from Alpine just means he cannot perform any miracles in that car. The F1 Mexican GP was just another example of how much work the team still has to do.

Franco Colapinto

Rating: 6

Just like Kimi Antonelli, Colapinto has reached a point where his performances are now acceptable. The gap between him and Gasly is not big, and he does get the better of him at times. The F1 Mexican GP was unfortunately not the race to showcase anything more than that.

Haas

Esteban Ocon

Rating: 6.5

Esteban Ocon is getting smashed by his rookie teammate, and while a part of it has to do with his issues on the car, the other part is just him being slower. The French driver has been showing up, and the F1 Mexican GP was no different.

Ollie Bearman

Rating: 10

There's a likelihood that Ferrari's top management was looking at Ollie Bearman and is evaluating when they can promote him should the current dream team collapse. The young Brit is coming into his own now and showing the way at Haas.

Racing Bulls

Liam Lawson

Rating: 6

Liam Lawson needs better results at Racing Bull. Unfortunately, it is as plain and simple as it can get here. The F1 Mexican GP was just another example of the driver not accomplishing that.

Isack Hadjar

Rating: 7

The young driver would be a tad disappointed about losing the last points-scoring position to Bortoleto, but this was another 'head down, focus on getting the result' performance that you have to try and extract when you are in a midfield car.

Williams

Alex Albon

Rating: 5.5

Every time Alex Albon came on the team radio, he was unhappy about something. The Thai driver did not look comfortable in the car at any point whatsoever, and we're slowly heading towards a point where the balance tilts towards Carlos Sainz at Williams.

Carlos Sainz

Rating: 7.5

The race could have been so much more for the Spaniard, but first the pre-race penalty and then just the issues with the car meant that Sainz had a Mexican GP to forget.

Sauber

Nico Hulkenberg

Rating: 7

Nico Hulkenberg was left distraught after a power unit issue meant that he couldn't do much in the F1 Mexican GP. As his teammate showed in the race, points were certainly on the table.

Gabriel Bortoleto

Rating: 7.5

A bad qualifying followed by a brilliant race for 'Gabby.' The Brazilian would be looking to sort out his qualifying, as his teammate appears to have gained an advantage on that front now.
