"Stefanski would rather get fired than play Shedeur Sanders": NFL analyst criticizes Browns coach after loss to Jets

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski is under scrutiny after reaffirming his decision to start Dillon Gabriel over Shedeur Sanders following Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the Jets.

“We’re gonna stick with Dillon," Stefanski told reporters. "Obviously, this is a young player (and) we have to play better as an offense.”

The statement sparked backlash, including from ESPN Cleveland host Aaron Goldhammer.

“I guess coach Stefanski would rather get fired than play Shedeur Sanders,” Goldhammer said, via ESPN.

Gabriel completed 17 of 32 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, along with 54 rushing yards. However, Cleveland’s attack lacked consistency, and key mistakes proved costly against Justin Fields’ Jets.

Meanwhile, Sanders remains the team's QB2. Stefanski’s stance has fueled growing criticism that he’s prioritizing loyalty to his starter over potential upside. It has left fans wondering how long the Browns will keep Sanders on the bench as the team is at the bottom of AFC North.
