2 Packers players hit with NFL punishment

The Green Bay Packers are 1-1 so far in the season, following a win over the New York Jets on Sunday and a loss to the Minnesota Vikings in their season opener. It's a mixed bag, and since Green Bay is simply a football town, this fanbase wants to see a better showing out of this team.

Aside from what happens on the field, players also have to deal with getting disciplined by the NFL for actions that they take on game day. Now, one Packers player is getting slapped with NFL punishment for what he did during the Minnesota game.

Each weekend, the NFL disciplines players for breaking the rules during the games the week before. According to the NFL's official website, the league "uses the fine schedule to outline the league's and the union's expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league."

Two Green Bay Packers players served with NFL fines

Two Packers players got hit with fines this past weekend. Packers linebacker Lukas Van Ness was fined $17,911 for a hit on a quarterback at 11:13, with the penalty categorized as a blow to the head or neck. Packers safety Evan Williams was fined $7,087 for unnecessary roughness at 3:43 after a hit on a defenseless player.

That fine for Van Ness was hefty. It was one of the biggest from the first week of games. But, the good news is that if these guys don't challenge the fine and pay up, the money will go to a good cause. The fines go to the Professional Athletes Foundation "to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game," according to the NFL.
