Emmys 2025 Red Carpet: BLACKPINK's Lisa, Selena Gomez & More Celebrity Fashion
Praise Kier: Britt Lower is a winner at the Emmys 2025.
The Severance star took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Sept. 14 ceremony, beating out Matlock’s Kathy Bates, The Last of Us' Bella Ramsey, Severance's Britt Lower, The Diplomat's Keri Russell and Bad Sisters' Sharon Horgan. Taking the stage at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Britt opened a piece of paper with what appeared to be a nod to her character Helly R. written on the back, reading, "LET ME OUT."
"First, it's a privilege to even be mentioned alongside such an incredible group of artists," she began. "I share this award with my heroic cast and crew whose work catalyzes mine."
After also thanking her family and "chosen family," Britt ended her speech with another shoutout to her severed character.
"Thank you for Helly R.," she added, "for choosing me."
And playing Helly R. and her outie persona Helena Eagan was no easy task. As Britt put it of the diametrically opposed characters, “She’s waging a war inside of herself within the same body.”
“I was really moved by getting to see Helly’s perspective through her eyeballs,” she told Vulture in July, explaining how the Lumon macrodata refiner formed “really human connections” with Adam Scott, Mark Cherry and John Turturro’s characters on the severed floor. “And then, by contrast, Helena’s scenes with her father are so sterile. Hurt people hurt people, generations of lack of nurturing.”
For Britt, that means breaking down the “many masks” Helena wears.

“I think about it as the inner critic and the inner child,” the 40-year-old shared. “The ego protects you, but it can protect you too much from living a free life.”
Britt added, “It’s like a Russian doll of masks.”
