Yaxel Lendeborg claims Michigan is the 'best team' in March Madness

2 hours ago 3

A lot of great teams are fighting it out in March Madness which has led to very close games. The Duke Blue Devils and Purdue Boilermakers just barely escaped the Sweet 16 if not for miracle pulls. However, not a lot of teams had quite the margin that the Michigan Wolverines enjoy after their win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Yaxel Lendeborg even posits that they are a cut above the rest.

Is Michigan the best March Madness team?

Heading into the second half, Michigan still found it hard to find their footing. They were behind 49-47 against the Nate Oats-led Alabama basketball squad. But, things started to change when the Wolverines got their groove. They prevented the Crimson Tide from gaining any momentum which led to a massive 90-77 win for Michigan which gets them to March Madness' Elite Eight.

Lendeborg was asked about his team's performance after the win. He had a very simple mic drop to punctuate their March Madness status, via CBS Sports.

"I feel like we're the best team in college basketball. We might be the best Michigan team ever. We are going to try and go for that and continue to play our brand of basketball, continue to try and keep winning," the Michigan superstar said.

The numbers in March Madness do quite back up Lendeborg's claim. They mopped Howard in the first round with a 101-80 win. They then followed it up by bouncing the Robbie Avila-led Saint Louis squad in the second round with a massive 95-72 margin. Now, it was Coach Oats and Alabama who got molly whopped into a 90-77 game.

"We dictated the tempo. We had them control the game for the first half. We cannot get into an offensive match with these guys, they are all too talented. Labaron's is one of the best guys that I've ever played against, if not the best. We just had to slow the game down and a get a little bit more physical," Lendeborg added.

There is a lot to say about whether or not Michigan is the best college basketball squad or if this even is the best iteration of the team when the Fab Five existed. Nonetheless, Coach May and Co.'s next challenge will be whoever comes out between the Tennessee Volunteers and Iowa State Cyclones.
