To be perfectly honest, the New York Yankees already needed another infielder before Jazz Chisholm Jr. went down.
The Yankees lost Chisholm last week to an oblique injury that will keep him sidelined indefinitely. While he and the team certainly hope the stay on the injured list isn't a long one, it's still too early to say what the recovery is going to look like.
If the Yankees had a well-built infield and Chisholm was the only missing piece, things might be different. But the reality is that with third base being manned by an unreliable platoon and shortstop Anthony Volpe now dealing with a shoulder injury, the New York infield is in serious turmoil.
With all that in mind, one baseball writer believes the Yankees should go out and land a superstar from the St. Louis Cardinals.
On Saturday, Zach Pressnell of Cardinals on SI speculated that the Chisholm injury could lead to increased urgency from the Yankees to acquire St. Louis third baseman Nolan Arenado, an eight-time All-Star who has been at the center of trade talks for months on end.
"Given the fact the Cardinals are trending in the wrong direction while the Yankees are a solid team with Arenado's former teammate Paul Goldschmidt at first base, it could make sense for Arenado to accept this kind of deal," Pressnell wrote.

"The Cardinals likely wouldn't ask for too much prospect capital in return, as long as they're clearing most of Arenado's massive contract off their payroll. This idea makes sense more than ever."
Arenado, 34, unfortunately looks to be in decline at the plate. After a hot start to the season, his OPS has dipped back down to .742, which still makes him a useful player, but no longer the superstar that he once was.
Arenado's contract, which totals eight years and $260 million and runs through 2027, has been a major roadblock to getting a deal done. The Yankees would be on the hook for about $60 million if they traded for him at full value today, and it's a toss-up as to whether or not they'll ever take the bait.
