The New York Yankees will look to add to their roster ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline.
One area of need for the Yankees is the bullpen. MLB analyst TJ French of Heavy urged New York to acquire Kyle Finnegan from the Washington Nationals.
“Kyle Finnegan was an All-Star last season with the Nationals,” French wrote. “He recorded 38 saves in 2024 in over 63 innings. Finnegan features a lively fastball and a pair of breaking pitches to go along with it.
“As the calendar turns to July, a plethora of MLB teams will likely be calling Washington regarding Finnegan,” French added. “Depending on what they would have to give up, the Yankees should seriously consider making this deal, as it would check all the boxes for their already solid pitching staff.”

Finnegan is a pending free agent as he’s earning $6 million this season, and with Washington out of the playoff picture, his name has come up in trade talks. Finnegan would serve as a late-inning reliever alongside Luke Weaver and Devin Williams.
Finnegan, who was an All-Star in 2024, did struggle in the second half of the season. However, this season, the right-hander has regained his form as he’s 0-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 28 games, including going 18-for-23 in save opportunities.
New York is currently 45-34 and atop the AL East.
