The first fly ball hit to New York Yankees centerfielder Trent Grisham this season had a 95% catch probability.
He didn't catch it.
Now there were a couple factors working against him -- sun, and he was positioned quite deep before the pitch.
Still, it wasn't ideal.
Starting pitcher Max Fried jammed Rafael Devers with a fastball, and he looped a weak fly ball out to shallow center.
Grisham didn't get that close. It dropped, and Matt Chapman (after a walk) went first to third for the San Francisco Giants.
95 percent catch probability for Trent Grisham on that single by Rafael Devers, per Statcast.

It didn't end up hurting the Yankees on the scoreboard.
Fried escaped the inning by striking out Willy Adames and then getting Jung Hoo Lee to ground out to Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base.
It wasn't ideal for the vibes of the start of the game, though.

Grisham will be an X-factor for the Yankees season, and one thing he's supposed to do is be a good centerfielder.
He'll hope this isn't a trend and just an unlucky moment.
