Yankees bats are as advertised in opening night bludgeoning

The New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants are in the middle of ringing in the 2026 season with a special opening night game on Netflix. It is a crisp night on McCovey Cove, but the Bronx Bombers bats are coming in bundles.

Everyone has anticipated that this Yankees lineup was going to be lethal, but no one could have expected just how fast they would get themselves going. Certainly no rust has been shown thus far, as this game is seemingly going perfectly. 

Yankees bats in full force

It got started with a RBI double by Jose Caballero in the second inning, which was then followed by Ryan McMahon clearing the bases with a two-run single. Immediately after, Trent Grisham transferred his powerful breakout season in 2024 with a huge two-run triple to make it 5-0 early.

After Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice were able to get on base, Giancarlo Stanton joined the party with a nice base knock to bring in Bellinger. Now at 6-0, the hits keep on coming as Jazz Chisholm Jr. got his season started right after a throwing error from Giants shortstop Willy Adames.

As this game continues to trek-on, everyone is awaiting the back-to-back American League Most Valuable Player, Aaron Judge. The Yankees captain has been sat down with strikes in four at-bats, and it has been the supporting cast that has shown out on opening night.

That is a great sign for the 2026 campaign for the Yankees. Establishing some strong secondary pieces outside of the core revolving around Judge, Stanton, Bellinger, and Rice is crucial. Not to mention that starting pitcher Max Fried is pitching a gem from the mound proves how scary this team is to start the year.
