Entering the season, there were a few obvious needs for the New York Yankees. This team was decent on paper, but due to some of the injuries they faced in spring training and a few question marks in the infield, the Yankees haven't exactly been as good as they were likely hoping to be entering the year.
Currently sitting at 15-11, holding a two-game lead in the American League East, New York could be better, and that's a promising sign given they are still in first place in the division.
If they trade for a player at the deadline, it's expected to come on the mound or for a second or third baseman. If the Yankees add a second or third baseman, they could move Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the other spot.
David Schoenfield of ESPN recently named Kyle Farmer of the Colorado Rockies a potential trade candidate, and he could make sense for this Yankees team.
While the right-handed hitter doesn't have much pop, and the Yankees are built on hitting home runs, he's put together some decent at-bats throughout his career.
“The Rockies rarely do anything splashy at the trade deadline -- and often do nothing at all -- but they'll have plenty of time to map out a potential strategy this year. However, which players would they even consider trading? Right-hander German Marquez is a free agent but hasn't shown any swing-and-miss stuff. Kyle Freeland is a homegrown local kid whom they will never trade. Ryan McMahon is signed through 2027 and is viewed as a franchise cornerstone. So that leaves ... Farmer? Maybe some team will want him as a utility guy,” he wrote.

Considering the Yankees likely wouldn't have to move on from much, Farmer could be a decent player to trade for.
He hasn't swung the bat at a high level to start the year, hitting just .253 with a .661 OPS, but if he can get his OPS to around the .725 mark, with 11 home runs, like he did in 2023 for the Minnesota Twins, he could be a valuable player to add.
