After another disappointing postseason exit, the New York Yankees are searching for answers.
They'll likely blame their shortcomings on injuries to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, but the Yankees cannot hide from the truth.
The organization hasn't won a World Series in 17 years, and the roster construction is a significant reason why.
Of course, that falls on the shoulders of general manager Brian Cashman. He must decide the future of 10 impending free agents: four position players and six relievers.
One of those players is third baseman Amed Rosario, a 10-year veteran who was re-signed for his energy and ability to hit left-handed pitching.
"For the first time in his 10-year career, Rosario finished with a higher OPS against righties and lefties. That is not ideal for the Yankees, given how they structured their roster," The Athletic's Chris Kirschner wrote.
"They re-signed him last offseason to come off the bench and to hit lefties, and he failed to do that," Kirschner added.
In 87 games, Rosario had a -0.2 bWAR with a .238/.279/.405 slash line and .684 OPS. Not exactly eye-popping numbers.

"Rosario posted a 65 wRC+ against lefties in 160 plate appearances. Poor batted-ball luck hurt his numbers, but he didn't have encouraging contact quality metrics to begin with," Kirschner added. "Additionally, Rosario can't be trusted defensively at any position.
Kirschner predicted that the Yankees will let Rosario sign elsewhere this offseason. The Yankees also have Anthony Volpe and Jose Caballero as options at third base.
For now, Ryan McMahon controls the starting job on paper.
