The Tampa Bay Rays are currently tied in the ALCS with the Cleveland Guardians at 1-1, with the series shifting to Cleveland. In Game 2, the Rays turned to Freddy Peralta, their trade deadline pickup, who put on a show for the team again this season.
Peralta, who looked like one of the biggest busts of the entire 0226 season with the New York Mets, completely turned his season around with the Rays. But it's not just his 2026 performance that's changed for the better. So too has his free agent market.
MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com revealed that Peralta's turnaround with the Rays has changed the narrative around his free agency. Now, Peralta is poised to do "very well" on the open market this offseason.
Freddy Peralta's Rays tenure has saved his free agency
"The turnaround for Peralta in Tampa Bay is the talk of baseball, and as one source said recently, 'it's night and day' to what he was in Queens," Murray writes. "Peralta will do very well in free agency. Very well."
After posting a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts with the Mets before the August 3 trade deadline, Peralta looked like he was set to get only one-year prove-it deals on the open market, along with some multi-year offers with plenty of options.
However, after 10 regular season starts with the Rays at a 3.25 ERA, and his remarkable 0.84 ERA in two postseason starts for Tampa Bay this season, Peralta has salvaged his free agent value.

While he might not land as massive a deal as if he were performing this great all season long, Peralta has dominated enough since the start of August that his market has rebounded significantly.
Murray is reporting that Peralta will do "very well" in free agency, something that would've been hard to believe only a few months ago before his trade to the Rays.
Tampa Bay is getting the benefits of Peralta's turnaround, and Peralta himself appears set to land quite the deal this offseason based on this report from Murray.
