Yankees predicted to choose former prospect-turned-WBC manager to be successor to Aaron Boone

Under Aaron Boone, the Yankees have been perennial contenders, and amassed a record of 697-497 in the regular season. However, he’s still not helped his club make it to the promised land, AND win.

FanSided’s Jake Elman believes that while Boone’s job is secure, the Yanks might want to at least scout his successor, just in case something goes terribly wrong, and they need a new skipper. He proposes they look at another former Yankee who’s tearing it up as a manager in the World Baseball Classic in Francisco Cervelli.

“With just a single pennant through his first eight seasons, Aaron Boone might have the greatest job security of any active MLB manager. At least Joe Girardi won his lone pennant in his second season leading the Yankees, and he topped that off with a 2009 World Series victory. That alone likely kept him as the Yankees’ skipper until his departure following the 2017 season. Cervelli, a former Yankees prospect who played for the team from 2008 through 2013, aligns with the criteria the Yankees might prioritize if they move on from Boone. Boone and Girardi both played for the Yankees, with the latter serving as an assistant coach under Joe Torre after retiring. Cervelli has gotten his feet wet at the WBC, and he’s shown that he can handle the pressure,” Elman wrote.

Currently, Cervelli is leading his country of Italy to dominance, as they are still undefeated and have made it to the final four teams, where they will play Venezuela in the semifinal, and the winner of the Dominican Republic and the United States if they make it to the final. If they somehow win both those games, Cervelli will be getting calls from anyone who needs a skipper.

So, if the Yankees get off to a rough start, while he seems like he has a decade left in him, it might be time to switch from Boone to fresh blood. Who knows? It could finally end their drought of winning a World Series.

Hopefully the Yanks get it together and are fine, but having a guy like Cervelli as the successor isn’t a bad plan at all.
