Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt's stats vs. lefties this season are out of this world

Paul Goldschmidt can still hit the heck out of the baseball.

That's especially true against left-handed pitching.

The New York Yankees' veteran first baseman, one of four former MVPs on the roster, came to the Bronx this offseason to add to the lineup, and he's done just that.

Against southpaws, he's been as good as anyone in baseball.

Goldy's stats through Aug. 7 against lefties are as follows:

  • .410 batting average
  • .483 on-base percentage
  • .733 slugging percentage
  • 1.217 OPS

The average and on-base percentage are both first in baseball among players with at least 100 plate appearances versus left-handers, per Baseball-Reference's Katie Sharp.

The only guy ahead of Goldschmidt in slugging and OPS vs. lefties? His teammate, Aaron Judge.

Goldy is hitting .281 overall, having cooled down a bit since a red hot start to the season. His outcomes versus right-handers haven't been as good for a while.

He's still a for-sure plus player for New York's lineup. He remains a great first baseman defensively and is a stellar base runner despite not possessing great speed.

Goldschmidt is 37 now and will turn 38 on Sept. 10. It's not a given that he'll be back with the Yanks next season.

For now, though, next season is a distant worry. The Yankees want to chase down the top of the AL East and set themselves up to make a deep postseason run.

At least they know that whenever the other team throws a left-handed pitcher, Goldschmidt (and Judge) will definitely deliver.
