Max Fried signed with the New York Yankees this offseason for $215 million.
That's the kind of deal that can bring a pitcher to the Bronx with a lot of hype. Some players can't handle the pressure in the Big Apple.
No such issues for Fried, though.
Through five starts, Fried is 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA. He has struck out 30 batters in 31.2 innings.
He's the fifth pitcher in the storied franchise's history to record at least four wins and have a sub-1.50 ERA in his first five appearances with the Yankees.
That's been of extra importance to New York given the injury woes that have befallen their starting rotation.

Gerrit Cole is out for the year, and Luis Gil is still a ways away.
The veterans the Yankees have installed into the rotation have struggled at times.
But they needed Fried to help bring them back to the World Series, and so far, the southpaw is doing his part.
He was a star in eight seasons for the Atlanta Braves, putting up a 3.07 ERA in his time there.
Fried may have a bad start or two coming eventually, but he's generally been one of the best pitchers in baseball for his whole career.
There's no reason that should change now, and the Yankees are reaping the benefits.
