It seemed likely that New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was headed to the injured list with a thumb sprain.
Today, the Yankees made it official, placing Chisholm on the 10-day IL.
The YES Network's Jack Curry reported yesterday that Anthony Volpe would take Chisholm's place on the roster.
"When Jazz Chisholm is placed on the IL, Anthony Volpe will be recalled from AAA. Volpe will join the team tomorrow. Chisholm is still active and will be available to pinch-run tonight," Curry wrote on X.
Chisholm did not pinch-run in last night's contest, but as expected, Volpe's contract was selected from Triple-A.
Volpe has been spending time at second base in the minors. With George Lombard Jr. at shortstop, he will likely split time at the middle infield spot with Jose Caballero.

"The Yankees have liked what they have seen from the 25-year-old as he's taken to the new position, according to Ryan Hunt, the team's infield, outfield, and base-running coordinator," The Athletic's Brendan Kuty wrote.
Since his demotion to Triple-A in August, Volpe has been hitting very well. In 109 at-bats, he's hitting .284 with 10 home runs and a 1.023 OPS. The former top prospect has six homers in his last 13 games.
The Yankees hope Volpe's recent success on both sides of the ball at Triple-A translates to the Majors.
