The New York Yankees and Jazz Chisholm Jr. may come to an impasse sooner rather than later.
The problem: His contract.
Chisholm is entering the last year of his current deal. If nothing happens, he'll be a free agent after the season.
On the surface, it seems like the Yankees would want to re-sign him. But so far, no movement.
Chisholm told The Athletic's Chris Kirschner that he's open to a new deal but that the Yankees haven't approached him about anything yet.
Spring Training is a time such a contract would often be negotiated and potentially completed. The longer it goes with no such talks, the tougher it'll be for Chisholm to land a deal to stay in place.

There were actually rumors in the offseason that Chisholm could end up as a trade candidate. As a guy entering the final year of his deal, it's something that at least has to be viewed as possible.
Chisholm is a potent player with a lot of power and speed, but his game does lend itself to some inconsistency.
The toughest part is always value on one side versus the other.
Chisholm can likely pitch himself as a 30-30 threat and believe he warrants a huge deal.
The Yankees can point to risks in his player profile and not want to go as big.
And if they can't agree, then Chisholm may end up in something other than pinstripes next season.
