Yankees' Jazz Chisholm breaks silence on unrealistic trade rumors

This offseason wasn't one of much change for the New York Yankees. For the most part, they're running it back. But not everyone is coming back.

Luke Weaver and Devin Williams are gone, both now with the New York Mets. They almost weren't alone, as Jazz Chisholm Jr. was thrown around in trade rumors this offseason, and could've been on the move.

Now at spring camp, Chisholm spoke on those trade rumors in a piece from The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. The Yankees' star infielder didn't mind the rumors and acknowledged how unrealistic a trade with him in it would actually be.

Jazz Chisholm breaks silence on Yankees trade rumors

"I was in trade rumors every day over there (Miami)," Chisholm said. "I feel like it's just a thing with business. (The Yankees are) obviously going to listen. I'm a hot topic. ... At the end of the day, is a trade going to be realistic? Not really."

This offseason saw Chisholm be the subject of trade rumors, with the Yankees reportedly listening to offers for their All-Star second baseman.

Coming off a 31-homer and 31-stolen-base season, there are plenty of teams that would love to add a player like Chisholm to their roster.

But, as Chisholm noted, is a trade actually realistic? The Yankees are World Series contenders; trading away a core player doesn't make much sense.

If they did move on from Chisholm, they would have a huge hole at second base and would need to find a way to replace him in the lineup. They might have options, but no one would be able to replace the value Chisholm brings to the team.

But just because a trade isn't realistic doesn't mean the Yankees shouldn't at least listen to offers. If a team is willing to offer a deal that's hard to refuse, the Yankees could've made a trade.

While no such offers came across the negotiating table, the Yankees' entertaining trade inquiries aren't a bad thing. Good teams are always ready to make trades, even if most don't materialize.

Chisholm's future with the Yankees beyond 2026 is uncertain, but at least for this season, the All-Star infielder is back and looking to have a huge contract-year season for the Yankees in 2026.
