Mets agree to free agent deal with ex-Athletics, Nationals 4.53 ERA righty pitcher

The New York Mets have built a World Series contender this offseason by reshaping nearly their entire roster.

While there have been a lot of changes made to the infield and outfield, the pitching staff also looks a bit different. Devin Williams and Luke Weaver joined the bullpen, while Freddy Peralta now leads the rotation.

But the Mets aren't adding just yet. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Mets are in agreement with free agent pitcher Bryce Conley, a former Washington Nationals and Athletics righty pitcher who's yet to make his MLB debut.

"Right-handed pitcher Bryce Conley and the Mets are in agreement on a minor-league deal, league sources said," Sammon reports.

Conley is a 31-year-old right-handed pitcher who's spent the entirety of his professional career in the minor leagues.

The Athletics 22nd round pick in 2017, selected 651st overall, has appeared in 160 minor league games in his career. In those 160 games (76 starts), he has a 4.53 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP.

Most recently, Conley made 22 starts in 2025, posting a 5.01 ERA with 107 strikeouts, 43 walks, and a 1.29 WHIP in 118.2 innings pitched.

In Double-A, Conley made eight starts, one of which was a complete game, though it was a six-inning affair that ended early, and with Conley as the losing pitcher, giving up five hits and three runs.

The 6-foot-3 righty is joining the Mets as some extra pitching depth for their minor league roster, as he likely won't factor into the competition this spring for an MLB spot.

He's not likely to make the Major Leagues, but Conley can provide some experience for the Mets in the minors and be a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency pitcher.
