Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton is unlikely maker of baseball history last done in 2003

Normally when you think of Giancarlo Stanton potentially doing something historic, you'd think of him hitting a mammoth home run.

Right now, though, Stanton is simply compiling hits in a hot start to the season for the New York Yankees.

In the process, Stanton has become the first Yankees player since 2003 to begin the season with four consecutive multi-hit games. The stat came via NY Yankees Stats on X:

Giancarlo Stanton is the first Yankee to record 2+ hits in each of his first 4 games of the season since Alfonso Soriano (6) in 2003

As that account notes, Soriano's streak stretched to six games to begin that campaign. The Yankees sure would love if Stanton kept it rolling for a couple more games.

Stanton has always been a guy who hits the ball incredibly hard, so it's not that he isn't capable of getting base hits. It's just that he's much more known for crushing the ball over the fence.

In his 8-for-16 start, though, Stanton has just one home run. That's not a concern, because a bunch of his hits have been whacked at Stantonian levels of power -- just not at a launch angle to get them all the way over a fence.

The quirkiest part of this -- Stanton has gone exactly 2-for-4 in all four Yankees games.

That includes the homer in game two, and a double on Monday night in Seattle, to go with six singles.

He has drive in two runs and scored twice. Stanton hasn't walked yet, and he has struck out four times.

And if he goes 2-for-4 in every game of the season, the Yankees sure wouldn't complain.
